fascia

fascia n. (pl. fasciae) connective tissue forming membranous layers of variable thickness in all regions of the body. Fascia surrounds the softer or more delicate organs and is divided into superficial fascia (found immediately beneath the skin) and deep fascia (which forms sheaths for muscles).
