femoral artery

femoral artery an artery arising from the external iliac artery at the inguinal ligament. It is situated supperficially, running down the front medial aspect of the thigh. Two-thirds of the way down it passes into the back of the thigh, continuing downward behide the knee as the popliteal artery.
