galvanism

galvanism n. (formerly) any form of medical treatment using electricity. Interrupted galvanism is a form of *electrotherapy in which direct current, in impulses lasting for 30 to 100 milliseconds, is used to stimulate the activity of nerves or the muscles they supply. See also faradism.
