immunoglobin (Ig) n. one of a group of structurally related proteins (gamma *globulins) that act as antibodies. Several classes of Ig with different functions are distinguished - IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, and IgM. They can be separated by *immunoelectrophoresis. See antibody.
