keratocele (descemetocele)

keratocele (descemetocele) n. outward bulging of the base of a deep ulcer of the cornea. The deep layer of the cornea (Descemet's membrane) is elastic and very resistant to ulceration; it therefore bulges when the overlying cornea has been destroyed.
